The Seventh Month
Aizada Amangeldy / Central Asia – Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic / Kyrgyz Republic / Kyrgyz / 15 minutes / 2025
Seven months ago, Mira underwent a serious operation – her uterus and ovaries were removed. In a society where motherhood is considered a woman’s ultimate purpose, she cannot reveal this to either her parents or her husband’s parents. To keep her family together and escape judgment, Mira resorts to deception: she wears a fake belly, pretending to be pregnant while their child grows in the womb of a surrogate mother. But as the “birth” approaches, the pressure intensifies.
